As a Japanese, I kept watching many anime and manga since I was little.

I know Gintama and Konosuba are already famous for a comedy anime but there are many other funny anime to watch which crack you up!

Some of them are not introduced in the list of oversea’s websites at all somehow.

Here I’ll introduce you hilarious Japanese anime that I picked up from Japanese point of view.

Cromartie High School

I kept reading this Cromartie High School and laughing when it was serialized in Shonen Magazine, maybe 25 years ago.

Serious top student Kamiyama enters high school full of delinquents.

Delinquents students looks scary but actually just stupid and dumb.
They are serious but stupid.

Somehow even robot, Gorilla and Freddie Mercury? join as a student.

Unique characters and surreal interactions make us laugh.

Even if it was a high school full of delinquents, I think I would be able to enjoy school life to the fullest if they were all delinquent students like this.

I think one of the top3 comedy anime is this Cromartie High School.

Asobi Asobase

They look ordinary cute girl students but each of them has a unique personality and is a little crazy.

Beautiful OP of anime of Asobi Asobase is also famous for deceptive OP as real story is not such a beautiful school life of ordinary girls but it’s more surreal with black humor sometimes.

Their facial expressions are worth seeing.

I also like the great work of voice actors in anime!

Kill Me Baby

Kill Me Baby is a laid-back comedy anime which you can enjoy with your brain turned off.

It’s a daily life of Sonia, a high school girl who is a hitman, and Yasuna, her stupid classmate who constantly harasses her.

Agiri, who is ninja, is also a quite appealing character.

There’s something about it that’s addictive.

It’s like a four-panel comic turned into an anime, with a great tempo.

I also like the OP and ED songs of this anime.
ED of their dance is called Kill Me Dance.

Angel Densetsu

I would pick up this Angel Densetsu with Cromartie High School among top 3 hilarious anime.

I can not read the comic outside or on the train as I know I would keep laughing alone.

The main character Kitano is a high school student and has a heart as gentle as an angel, but a face like a devil.

Even though he is acting with good intentions, those around him are panicking (including teachers) and turning him into a legend.

Anime that makes me laugh out loud no matter how many times I watch it.

Magical Circle Guru Guru

I was watching the anime and collecting the comic of this Magical Circle Guru Guru when I was in junior high school.

The story is an RPG-style fantasy about the hero Nike and the wizard Kukuri who set out on a journey to defeat the Demon King.

But their journey is filled with jokes and comedic banter.

The drawings are cute like Kill Me Baby although different style but well made, I felt.
I liked the comical story and the drawing itself that I kept collecting at the time.

Kita Kita Oyaji (Kita Kita Old Man) also adds a nice touch to the work.

Gintama

No need to tell, I think.

Gintama is popular not only in Japan but in overseas.

SF period drama comedy in which Sakata, the handyman and his partner Shinpachi and Kagura carry out requests they take.

Mainly jokes and parody but sometimes serious and touches our hearts.

For its parody part, you can see Dragon Ball, Ghibli, Evangelion, Pretty Cure and much more that I’m sometimes worried about patent things although Akira Toriyama liked his parody.

Not new but not very old anime as it started in 2004.
Gintama has many fans even now and I also like it.

God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! (Konosuba)

God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World!, a.ka. Konosuba, is a fantasy comedy about Kazuma, a young shut-in who is reincarnated in another world and embarks on an adventure with the goddess Aqua and a group of troublemakers.

It’s a farcical comedy of good-for-nothings.

Each character has a strong personality that even a spin-off work such as An Explosion on This Wonderful World! was made as Megumin was very popular character.

Anime set in another world was mainly serious at the time but I think this Konosuba was the first comedy anime set in another world.

Bobobo-bo Bo-bobon

Just one word, chazm!

I don’t know what’s going on.

Anime that leaves viewers behind, that’s Bobobo-bo Bo-bobon.

Yes, I don’t understand even the meaning of the title although it includes the name of the main character.

I understand why it ranked among programs parents don’t want their children to watch here in Japan.
Still, I like Hanage Shinken.

I think this anime is separated from likes and dislikes but recommended for those who just wanna laugh without thinking about anything.

Summary

I want to recommend you Cromartie High School and Angel Densetsu first.

Because I’m sure they crack you up and you are able to know Japanese old delinquent’s culture at the same time.

I also like Asobi Asobase and Kill Me Baby for comedy school life anime as they are surreal.
I like the gap of Asobi Asobase.

Magical Circle Guru Guru was my favorite when I was a junior high school student.
Not only funny story but the drawings are good and cute.

Bobobo-bo Bo-bobon is just chasm but I like such chaotic anime as well.

I haven’t watched comedy anime recently but I checked once again to write this article and they cracked me up again even now.

When you’re tired from everyday life and just want to laugh without thinking about anything, the anime I introduced above are recommended!
