Especially, Anya is very popular.

I understand it.

After watching the anime, I understood the popularity.

How Old is Anya?

Anya said “6” when asked by Loid.

But there is a possibility of lie.

Loid was looking for a child who can enter an elementary school for a purpose of spying.

Anya could read the thoughts of Loid and if she said her real age, Loid wouldn’t take her, she thought, so she might have said fake age of 6.

Real age is not revealed even in the original comic, so nobody knows.

I guess, she is 5 or 4.
Very low chance of under 3 considering her behavior.

Her height is also 99.5cm.
Average height of first grade of elementary school children in Japan is 116.7cm.

Her height is not enough for first grade although there is a difference of speed of growth depends on the child.

99.5cm is the average height between 4 and 5.

So I think her real age is 5 or 4.
Maybe 5 considering her behavior.

Anya’s Smug Face “Heh”

Most unique face of Anya is definitely this smug face.

I know this face as this kind of face sometimes appears in Japanese anime and comic.

But when it comes to Anya doing this, that’s a different level.

When her classmate pushed her saying go away, she was going to give him a punch.

But she remembered what she was told by Yor.

“Those who wield power by letting their emotions get the better of them are not truly strong.You’ll be a cool lady if you can laugh off”

Her friend right next to her said “Fight back”.

So she fought back by laughing off.

At least, she thought doing so.

But it was just a smug face.

We call it どや顔 (Doya gao) in Japanese.
どや is from どうだ or どうや (どうや is dialect in Osaka).

If you did something great and wanted to boast, you could say どうだ or どうや.

And this face is exactly the expression.
But it also includes a sort of condescension.

Seeing the face, the boy who made a mock of her first snapped as he felt he was being mocked by her.

Anya’s Japanese Voice Actor Atsumi Tanezaki

Japanese voice actor who plays the role of Anya is Atsumi Tanezaki (種﨑敦美).

If you watch anime in Japanese voice, you would notice her talent.

If you just make cute voice like a child, I think many professional voice actors including ordinary people can do.

What she does is different level like attracting everyone.
She knows the strength and cadence behind very well and it even conveys emotions deep down within Anya.

That’s why we sympathize Anya when she speaks.

In an interview, she told that she focuses on eliciting on-the-spot emotions unique to a child to the max with honest feelings.

She also told that the reason why she wanted to become a voice actor was Sailor Moon.

She was fully attracted by the performance of the voice actors of Sailor Moon when she watched it on TV and that made her decide to follow the same path.

I understand as Sailor Moon became very popular.
I think that was the first battling anime became popular among girls.
